La Catedral de Santa María fue proyectada como un templo de cruz latina con tres naves y girola, en donde se observan los rasgos del gótico mediterráneo por su sencillez estructural, su moderada elevación y limitados ventanales. Posee influencia castellana en la disposición de la nave central más alta que las laterales, pero también influencia aragonesa al situar el cimborrio a los pies del templo y no en el crucero. Como rasgo peculiar el transepto es más largo en su lado norte que en el sur.

The Cathedral has the shape of a Latin Cross with three naves and an ambulatory, in which we can distinguish the characteristics of the Mediterranean Gothic, due to its structural simplicity, its moderate height and average windows. A Castillian influence can also be distinguished in the disposition of the central nave that is higher than the lateral ones, but also Aragonese influence as the lantern tower is situated in the end of the Cathedral and not in the crossing. The transept is longer in its North side than in the South one.
